Ganta, Nimba – Authorities are on the lookout for an immigration officer, Joseph Budy, who is allegedly connected to the disappearance of 25-year-old Vaney J. Togba. The incident reportedly occurred on August 9, 2024.
According to sources, Vaney Togba received a call from Budy, who is stationed as the border patrol commander in Bong County, asking him to come to the Orange Office to buy a phone. Vaney left his residence but was later reported missing.
Around 6-7 PM, Togba’s family received alarming news that Vaney might have drowned in the St. John River in Ganta. Eyewitnesses at the river claimed that Vaney was seen with Budy, and that Budy had told Togba to stay put while the LDEA officers were approaching. Despite their attempts to assist, Budy allegedly dismissed concerns and told locals nothing had happened.
Local residents reported hearing cries for help from the river, and Rev. Abraham Togba noted seeing Budy leaving the area shortly afterward.
As of now, the Liberia Immigration Authority has not provided information about Budy’s whereabouts, and Togba’s family has filed a formal missing person report. Police are considering declaring Budy wanted if the immigration authority does not clarify the situation.
