Rome, Italy— President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., on today held meetings with key international business leaders to explore opportunities for further development in Liberia’s telecommunications and industrial sectors.

During his meeting with the Chairman and CEO of Telecel, President Boakai lamented on improving Liberia’s telecommunications infrastructure and stressed the importance of creating a digital, reliable, and efficient system that is secure and resistant to interference.

Additionally, he called for a system that allows a single phone to operate across multiple networks, enhancing connectivity and convenience for all Liberians.

“The decisions we make regarding communications must always be in the best interest of the people and the nation,” President Boakai said.

The President further that “In this modern age, we expect to see significant advancements in the telecommunications sector that will transform Liberia’s digital landscape.”

The President referred Telecel’s leadership to the appropriate government agencies to further discuss the details of their potential investment and explore areas of collaboration.

In a separate meeting, President Boakai met with Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal, the Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, a key player in Liberia’s industrial development. Mr. Mittal highlighted ArcelorMittal’s long-standing commitment to the country, noting that the company has employed over seven thousand Liberians during its seventeen years of operations in Liberia. Chairman Mittal described the Company’s activities as essential to the future and vision of Liberia.

Responding, Boakai underscored the importance of foreign investment in improving the livelihoods of Liberians, branding current investors as “ambassadors” for others who may be interested in doing business in the country. He also stressed the critical need for training Liberia’s youth to equip them with the skills necessary to take up leadership roles in society and contribute to national development.

“Investors like ArcelorMittal are not only contributing to our economy but are helping to shape the future of our nation by supporting the training and development of young Liberians,” President Boakai stated.

The meeting concluded with the reechoing of shared commitment to continuing to build on the strong foundation of investment and cooperation between ArcelorMittal and the Liberian Government.
