Bong County Senator Orders Market Women to Return to Old Gbarnga Market Following Protests.

Gbarnga, Bong County— In a decisive response to a day-long protest by Bong County market women, Senator Prince Kermue Moye has instructed vendors to return to the old Gbarnga Market facility. The protest, which disrupted traffic at Jor River’s Bridge, was sparked by complaints about inadequate space at the newly established Gbarnga General Market.

Jerry Garpue, a spokesperson for the protesters, revealed that despite directives from the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) and Gbarnga City Mayor Garlai Varplah to purchase additional spaces at the new location, the market women found themselves without adequate space, prompting the demonstration.

In response, Senator Moye has allocated 100 bundles of zinc and $300,000 to refurbish the old market facility, ensuring the vendors can return to their previous selling spaces. He also emphasized President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s commitment to enhancing the market women’s livelihoods.

Senator Moye’s actions reflect his dedication to addressing constituents’ concerns and improving their working conditions, underscoring the importance of responsive and effective.
