Monrovia, Liberia – February 26, 2025 – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has issued a statement urging motorcyclists planning to protest under the banner of the Supreme Motorcycle Transport Union of Liberia (SUMTUL) Inc. to adhere to legal procedures and maintain peace.

The LNP acknowledged the right of citizens to peaceful assembly as guaranteed under Article 17 of the 1986 Constitution but emphasized that all demonstrations must comply with established legal frameworks. The police urged motorcyclists to formally notify the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for overseeing public safety, to ensure the protest is properly considered and approved.

In its statement, the LNP assured protestors that, once all legal requirements are met, the police will provide security to safeguard both demonstrators and the public. However, the police warned against any acts of violence or disruptions to public order, stressing that law enforcement will not tolerate actions that threaten national peace.

Meanwhile, the LNP encouraged residents of Monrovia to go about their daily activities without fear, as authorities continue to engage relevant stakeholders to address concerns surrounding the planned protest.
