The Gbowee Peace Foundation recently concluded a week-long peace camp for children under 17 years in Zorzor City.
The Founder and president, Lamah Rosebeltor Gbowee, highlighted that the camp aimed to educate participants about conflict resolution and peace building, reflecting on the Liberian civil war to help curb violence in their communities.
Originally scheduled for 2023, the camp was postponed to 2024 due to electoral processes that restricted gatherings. Gbowee emphasized the camp’s inclusivity, welcoming children with disabilities.
Participants had the opportunity to visit the Temple of Justice, the legislature, and the executive mansion, where they presented a statement advocating for improvements in Liberia’s education system.
Among the participants, Mahammed Jawaneh from Foya District received the Gbowee Peace Foundation’s Peace Ambassador Award, expressing surprise and excitement at the recognition.
He shared his experience volunteering with a disabled participant, encouraging inclusivity.
Another participant, Goloria Kolubah, described the camp as life-changing and expressed sadness at its conclusion, vowing to carry a message of peace back to her community.
