The administration of Armah Jarkonah School of Excellence celebrated its fourth graduation and closing exercise over the weekend, graduating thirty-nine students from its kindergarten and elementary divisions.
The commencement and closing exercise was a significant event, drawing government and non-government officials, parents, students, school administrative staff, and eminent citizens from the county and its environs. The celebration featured various student performances, including recitations, gospel dances, dramas, solos, and selections.
The event was held at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) auditorium in Kakata, Margibi County. Student Moscale A. Bondo, the valedictorian, delivered an address on the theme “The Idea of Commencement.” He defined commencement as the beginning of something, referencing the Wax ford dictionary.
Bondo emphasized that as they transition from kindergarten and elementary levels, it marks the start of their elementary and primary education he urged his peers to remain focused and determined for the greater challenges ahead in their educational journey.
Bondo quoted Sir Franklin Dahn, saying, “When we are too young, we are pleased with ourselves; when our dreams come true, it is because we dream too little. He stressed the importance of pushing forward with hope for the future.
The guest speaker, Mr. Ignatius D. Kunmeh, Vice President for Administration at the University of Liberia, addressed the young graduates encouraging them to aim for bigger goals in the future. Mr. Kunmeh highlighted that graduation is not just a time for celebration but also a time to reflect on past and celebrate one’s character, as development begins with character.
Vice Principal for Instruction (VPI), Mr. Edwin Y. Kollie, presented the school’s progress report. He stated that the institution began the 2023-2024 academic year with 379 students across its kindergarten, elementary, and junior high divisions. The school operates two campuses in the Buzzy’s Quarter community and the Mandingo Quarter community. Mr. Kollie acknowledged the challenges faced during the academic year but expressed gratitude for the successful completion of the year with the support of God and the administrative staff.
The fourth commencement and closing exercise of Armah Jarkonah School of Excellence was a joyous and memorable occasion, marking a significant milestone for the graduating students and the institution. The event highlighted the achievements of the students and the dedication of the school’s staff in providing quality education.
