Pleebo, Liberia – In a move that has sparked controversy, local activist Fred Jaffa was arrested on Tuesday while leading a peaceful protest demanding justice for Mammie Williams, a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted by her fiancé, Mechezedech Toe, the former mayor of Harper City.

According to eyewitnesses, the alleged attack on Williams occurred on March 22 in Zone 7, Pleebo. Following the incident, activists took to social media to call for accountability and stronger protections for victims of domestic violence. Jaffa and other protesters gathered to amplify these concerns, but authorities intervened, citing concerns over public order, leading to his arrest.

Supporters of Jaffa have condemned the police action, arguing that it undermines freedom of speech and the right to advocate for justice. “We are only asking for a safer environment for women,” one protester stated.

The case has drawn attention to ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence in Liberia, with activists and community leaders calling for a thorough review of the allegations against Toe and greater enforcement of protective laws for victims.

Jaffa’s arrest has ignited discussions on social media, with many demanding his release and urging authorities to prioritize domestic violence cases. As the situation continues to unfold, the community remains vocal in its call for justice and systemic reform.
