Ganta, Nimba – In the wake of the tragic fire that occurred at Jestina Bar and Restaurant in Ganta, the Nimba County Administration, under the leadership of Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono, has expressed deep solidarity with the owners of the establishment, Mr. Tee Yormie and Mrs. Jestina Dahn Yormie.
The fire, which severely damaged portions of the facility on Sunday night, has resulted in significant losses not only to the Yormie family but also to the broader Ganta business community. The destruction of goods and property is a blow to the thriving local economy, which relies heavily on businesses such as Jestina Bar and Restaurant to sustain livelihoods.
Superintendent Gono extended heartfelt condolences and solidarity, emphasizing that the devastation comes at a time when the county is still grappling with the aftermath of recent fire outbreaks, including one on September 27, 2024, near the LPMC market, and another on October 15, 2024, in Sanniquellie. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by businesses and communities, particularly in these difficult economic times.
“The pain of this loss is deeply felt by all of us in Ganta, a town known for its resilience and economic vitality. We want to assure Mr. and Mrs. Yormie that we stand with them in this difficult period. We understand the financial and emotional toll this has taken, especially as the Yormies face additional personal health challenges,” stated Superintendent Gono.
As the county reflects on these repeated tragedies, the administration has reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for enhanced fire response capabilities. Gono called on the national government to prioritize the empowerment of the National Fire Service, urging the provision of modern fire trucks and other necessary resources to ensure timely and effective responses to future emergencies.
“This is not just an option but a critical necessity to safeguard lives and properties across Nimba and Liberia as a whole,” Gono remarked.
In the spirit of solidarity, Gono also urged the people of Nimba to unite in support of the Yormie family, calling on the community to prioritize safety and preparedness to prevent further tragedies.
“Our thoughts, prayers, and unwavering support are with you, Mr. and Mrs. Yormie. We believe in your resilience and strength to rebuild, and we are here to assist you in any way possible,” concluded the statement.
The Nimba County Administration remains committed to strengthening community efforts and securing the resources needed to prevent future disasters.
