MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberian government has intensified efforts to clean up its payroll by ensuring that retired employees are properly transitioned to the national pension system.
Dr. Josiah F. Joekai, Director-General of the Civil Service Agency (CSA), announced at a press briefing in February that nearly 500 retired employees have been successfully enrolled in the pension system, with some already receiving benefits as of January 2025.
The CSA has also made strides in addressing a backlog of retirees who had not been receiving their entitlements, ensuring their inclusion in the national pension payroll.
As part of efforts to maintain payroll integrity, the agency is set to:
- Remove retired employees from the national payroll once they have been enrolled in the pension system.
- Exclude employees who have refused to participate in the retirement process while allowing them to complete the necessary procedures to access their pension benefits.
Dr. Joekai reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible retirees receive their rightful benefits while promoting a transparent and accountable payroll system.
