Monrovia – The Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) has strongly condemned recent remarks by Representative Samuel G. Kogar, describing them as disparaging and contrary to the principles of democracy, fairness, and equal participation in Liberia’s political process.
In a statement issued on [date], CMC reaffirmed its stance on gender equality, emphasizing the significant role women play in national development and governance. The movement stressed that leadership should be based on merit, vision, and service to the people, rather than restricted by gender, tradition, or religious bias.
“Women have always played a vital role in shaping our society, and their contributions to governance and national development should be recognized and respected,” the statement read. “Any attempt to demean or exclude them based on gender is not only unjust but also contrary to the democratic values we uphold as a nation.”
CMC noted that even within Liberia’s traditional structures, women have historically held leadership positions, demonstrating that governance has never been an exclusive domain of men. The movement called for the rejection of rhetoric that seeks to marginalize any group in society.
“We urge Representative Samuel G. Kogar and all political leaders to foster a culture of respect, inclusivity, and democratic fairness,” CMC stated. “Women must not only be included but also valued as equal partners in shaping the future of our country.”
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to an open and inclusive democracy where leadership is earned through competence and dedication rather than outdated societal norms.
CMC’s statement comes amid growing calls for greater female representation in Liberia’s political landscape, as advocacy groups continue pushing for gender equality and increased participation of women in leadership roles.
