Vatican City, Italy— His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., was received in audience today by His Holiness Pope Francis at the Vatican Apostolic Palace. During their discussions, President Boakai and Pope Francis highlighted ongoing collaborations between Liberia and the Catholic Church, particularly in education and healthcare. The President expressed his deep gratitude for the Church’s contributions to the welfare of the Liberian people, emphasizing the pivotal role of its educational institutions and medical services in promoting social welfare and human dignity.
Following the audience with the Holy Father, President Boakai met with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, and His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. Their talks focused on Liberia’s current social and economic challenges, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development in the country.
